Global Investors Eye Bangladesh After Doha Meeting
Overview
In order to attract investment in Bangladesh, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus met with some leading foreign investors in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on Wednesday night. A Malaysian business delegation led by Versatile Group Chairman and Hello Superstars App founder Dr. Kamrul Ahsan met with the Chief Advisor. The group included Malaysian Crown Prince and famous businessman Tengku Hishammuddin, Maldives Vice President Adeeb and Malaysian two-time Minister Zuraida, members of the Qatari royal family, leading bankers and some wealthy expatriate Bangladeshi investors and entrepreneurs. In the meeting, they presented investment proposals to the Chief Advisor for the construction of the largest five-star resort and hotel in Cox's Bazar, renewable energy, carbon credits, and an amusement park in Jalsiri.
Dr. Yunus is committed to making Bangladesh a productive country and requested the Malaysian investment team to begin the formal process of their activities soon. Addressing investors, the chief advisor said the interim government wants to transform Bangladesh into a manufacturing and economic hub and welcomes all types of foreign investment. Stating that Bangladesh offers attractive investment opportunities within the region, Dr. Yunus said, 'We want to be one of the top manufacturing countries in the world.'
Investors expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities in manufacturing, waste management, energy, banking, and tourism, especially in the resort zone of Cox's Bazar. Participants in the discussion highly appreciated the investment potential of Bangladesh and expressed interest in investing on a larger scale in the future.The Chief Advisor urged investors to visit Bangladesh and hold discussions with investment-related organizations.
Those concerned believe that such high-level meetings will play an even more important role in the future in strengthening Bangladesh's economic progress and global investment relations. Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain and Principal Coordinator for SDGs at the Office of the Principal Advisor Lamia Morshed were present at the meeting.
